When Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Norm Miller announced his Bill 173, the Reducing Waste One Pod at a Time Act, he was greeted by a wave of public support and media interest. Now, he’s asking citizens to join the call for the 100% compostable solution to single serve waste.
Bill 173 would make 100% compostable pods the only legal way to sell single serve coffee in Ontario. It would build on the arrival of new compostable pod innovations that are proven to break down in composting facilities designed to produce high quality compost.
Yesterday, Miller launched a petition that gives people a simple way to tell legislators they want the compostable solution – now. The petition is adding even more voices to the thousands already supporting Bill 173.

The legislation recognizes the explosion of innovation in compostable products. From serving containers to bags to coffee pods, leading-edge compostable products are reducing the waste in our landfills. PurPod100, the world’s first a single serve coffee pod certified as 100% compostable by the Biodegradable Products Institute, is the kind of forward-thinking product Miller has in mind for Ontario.
