Sustainable Innovation

Consumers want real answers to waste associated with single serve beverages

Experts see certified commercially compostable† as the answer – a convenient single serve pod for great tasting coffee, tea and other hot beverages. Researchers got to work to turn that vision into results. They developed PURPOD100®.

Partners

We worked closely with the Bioproducts Discovery and Development Centre (BDDC) located at Canada’s University of Guelph, conducting the key research and innovation that helped create PURPOD100®. This centre of innovation brings together world-class, interdisciplinary experts to collaborate on projects with commercial application. It’s brings together the best of academia with industry to create innovative solutions with real-world applications.

We worked with a variety of key partners to develop other central components that make PURPOD100® the #rightsolution, such as, the first commercially compostable† mesh of its kind in the world. Additional experiments identified an opportunity to use the thin skin that comes from roasting coffee beans to give the ring on every PURPOD100® its distinctive brown look“, while helping to promote a circular economy and divert waste from landfill.
